6 fun things to do in London

So, you’re going to London and want to embrace some fun things to do and some great places to eat at? Well, look no further than the following list!

1. Breakfast at The Wolseley

Perhaps the quintessential British experience, The Wolseley. It did not disappoint. Everything from the service to the tasty food to the amazingly smooth and flavoursome tea was a highlight—so much so that I made my way back there three times… in my five-day stay!

I loved the silverware tea experience—learning how to use the cute tea strainer and enjoying each sip from the pot of tea feeling fancy and enjoying the smoothest earl grey tea I’ve ever had!

The traditional and delicious English breakfast—toast, butter, bacon, eggs, baked beans, tomatoes and mushrooms—was enough to leave me full until dinner. Though, I wasn’t game enough to try the black pudding on my plate.

2. Catch the bus!

While trains and subways (or the tube) are often quicker, the buses give you a view you otherwise wouldn’t see. The benefit of getting off and on buses is that you can explore streets between bus stops!

Whether walking around Mayfair, Soho or Belgravia, London has beautiful streets to explore. You’ll likely find cute cafes or bakeries along the way to grab a bite and a takeaway hot drink to keep you warm in the cold air.

Walking around the streets also gives you views of lovely houses with sweet steps leading up to gates, hanging plants, cute bricks and fancy doors.

3. Eat fish and chips at the Pub

Ok, I get it. So many people say it, and it’s true—fish and chips in London are amazing.

I only ate half of what was on my plate—it was such a large serving size, and I was so full!

The batter on the fish was so golden and crunchy. The flesh of the fish was silky smooth, fresh and fell apart effortlessly. The chips were delicious. A pub-style meal is definitely a worthwhile experience for a taste of London!

4. Book a show at the West End theatre

I booked tickets to see Mamma Mia while in London and was surprised to get great seats only a couple of days before the show. The cast was brilliant. The singers were brilliant. The dancing was energetic. The storyline was fun, with twists of added humour from the original plot.

Watching a show at the West-end is such an engaging experience. I felt like the cast was performing with everyone, not just to everyone. I almost wished I had seen another show during my time in London.

5. Eat pizza!

While I did wait outside for an hour for Ave Mario to open, I can confirm: this was one of the best pizzas I’ve had.

Rating at a high 4.8 on Google, with over 7,000 reviews, I was curious whether this place lived up to the hype. And boy, it did!

I ordered a Margarita, and the pizza was like silk: pizza-flavoured silk. Delicious silk. It was so soft and smooth; it almost fell apart when picking it up. The taste was like nothing I’d experienced before. It was light and airy; it didn’t feel heavy at all!

After dinner, the waiter would not take no for an answer when I declined dessert, so I ended up with a lemon dessert, il limonemisù, a lemon version of tiramisu—great if you want something similar minus the coffee! It was delicious, and I am so glad the waiter insisted I get dessert. The mascarpone cream was delightful. The layers of the cake texture were so fluffy and smooth. It felt light and bright and a true delight to our taste buds!

When it came time to pay, the waiter had removed the dessert cost from the bill. I double-checked to ask if this was a mistake, and he said dessert was on him! It was definitely a memorable food experience—one I am so grateful for!

6. Eat plants!

If you don’t think plants are yummy, think again. And maybe put Plants by Deliciously Ella on your list to visit when you’re next in London.

The food here was so heart-warming, nourishing and homely that I came back a second time during my five-stay visit.

The food was so delicious that you could not imagine vegetables tasting this good. It was a talking point for the rest of the trip! A seemingly basic side of vegetables felt like the best bowl of veggies I had ever had! So much flavour was in each meal. There was nothing bland about this place.

Nourishing. Kind. Homely. —these are the words that come to mind to describe Plants by Ella. The staff were so lovely and kind. I felt like I was having dinner at a friend’s home!
