Let’s be honest: any hotel that serves sparkling water on arrival, in my eyes, is a great hotel.
When I started researching Zurich accommodation, I knew it was only for one night, but I wanted a good night’s sleep. It soon became clear to me that Zurich was pretty pricey.
I read so many hotel reviews, and by the end, I felt like I had checked out every hotel in Zurich. When I thought I found a good hotel, I later realised it was near restaurants or loud areas, and I knew this would be a problem.
So this little gem of a hotel I found was a win-win situation for two reasons. Firstly, it looked lovely and appeared to be in a quiet area. Secondly, while there was no way I could afford the nightly price, I used travel points to offset a large portion of the cost so that the rest was within budget.
Arrival
When I arrived at Hotel Kindli, I knew it would be great. Again, the sparkling water really got me—maybe it’s a fancy hotel thing? I’d never seen that before—and I love sparkling water.
I was also super excited to see tea and coffee set up in the lobby to access whenever. And not just coffee pods, but TEA pods! I didn’t know that was a thing.
Hotel
The building and interior décor is just beautiful. There’s a classy lobby, beautiful light pink marble stairs that spiral up towards the rooms, exquisite décor and furnishings, and stunning tall roses in huge vases throughout the hotel. The feel of this hotel was classic and classy—the colours, paintings and flooring.
Room
I was surprised with the room, mainly because the online photos didn’t give away too much of the room’s look, so when I stepped inside and had a small entryway to hang coats and separate the room from the front door, it felt nice. It felt quiet.
I had a beautiful bathroom with a huge shower and lovely amenities. Plus, slippers and a free minibar! The comfort of a clean, fresh and quiet room is bliss when you travel.
The room had traditional European windows, which open outwards and give you a view down the street. It was peaceful opening those windows and looking outside at our surroundings. I had a very soft bed and soft pillows—at first, they felt amazing, but the bed was a bit too soft for my usual liking. For one night, it was fine.
Noise
I like a quiet hotel with good room soundproofing for a great sleep. It was a quiet night, and I slept well.
Location
Hotel Kindli is in Old Zurich—a charming and historical part of town. Just a few streets away is the newer part of Zurich—it’s amazing that you can walk just a few streets away and you’re in modern Zurich. Then you walk back, and suddenly you’re in the stunning town of Old Zurich. It’s lovely to explore Old Zurich. It feels slow-paced and heart-warming.
Service
The staff were friendly and helpful. I felt welcomed, safe and at home.
Overall experience
It was the perfect place to stay for one night in Zurich. Would I recommend this hotel to a friend? Yes. If you can use points to help pay for this, then a big yes. If you book on sale, even better. If you feel fancy for a night and are willing to splurge, this might be a nice treat for your stay in Zurich.
